Recent Implementation Grant Recipients

Augusta Library Consortium

Augusta students in grades 6-8 form book groups culminating in a
two-hour “Challenge” event involving trivia, costumes, and
illustration as relates to the group read.

Belgrade Public Library

Distribute books to area daycare and follow-up with three eight-week
storytime sessions. Seniors and teens will help implement the program.

Frenchboro Public Library

Hire an artist-in-residence to do a 10-week course at the library for
adults and make visits to the Island school and preschool.

Norway Memorial Library

Provide bookmobile service to children and families in six low-income
locations (Norway, Oxford and Paris) throughout the summer.

Rumford Elementary School

Extreme Readers, a book discussion group of fifth graders, will meet
with high school role models to discuss the books and engage in other
activities.

Shaw Public Library, Greenville

Local eighth-graders will work with the local historical society to
interview area seniors and write-up their life stories.

Swan’s Island Educational Society

Targeting adolescent/young adult reading, they will present a program
pairing written texts with audio books and adaptive technology
designed to improve reading skills.

Topsham Public Library

Partnering with the two town’s two elementary schools, the
library distribute to registered area daycares book bags designed to
prepare preschoolers for kindergarten.

York Public Library

Working with the school department, the library will host a
four-session literacy program targeting children entering kindergarten
and their parents.
